Council Minutes – January 4, 2010

January 4, 2010

The regular meeting of the Belle Plaine City Council met on January 4, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chambers with Mayor Jim Daily presiding.  Present:  Garrison Reekers, Harold Ealy, Marv DeRycke, and Jason Parizek.  Also present City Administrator Bill Daily.  Absent: Craig Van Scoyoc.

Motion by Ealy to approve the consent agenda consisting of council minutes from December 21, 2009, bills @ $ 74,042.56 and minutes from the Committee of the Whole – December 21st, second by DeRycke. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by DeRycke to approve  KC Alleys’  renewal of Class C liquor & Sunday sales permits, second by Ealy.On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by Ealy to approve the 1st reading of Ordinance #10-1-1 an amendment to Chapter 46 Curfew for Minors, second by Reekers. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by Ealy to appoint Jennifer Zahradnik as the City Attorney, second by DeRycke. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried. 

City Attorney Jennifer Zahradnik took her place at the council table.

Motion by DeRycke to appoint Amy Dolash as the Assistant City Attorney, second by Ealy. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by Ealy to approve the appointments of Nick Palmer, Marv DeRycke and Walt Kollmorgen to the Carole Sue Donovan Beautification Fund Board per Mayor Daily’s recommendation, second by Reekers. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by Reekers to approve Payment #4 to Mechanical Inc @ $39,191.40 for the Aquatic Facility Project, second by Parizek. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

City Administrator Reports:

  1.  Bill said work will continue on Aquatic Facility Project throughout the winter. They will work on the bathhouse & the mechanical room if possible.
  2. Bill reported that a $220,000 grant has helped with rehabilitation of one house in Belle Plaine.   6 applications were approved for rehabilitation.   5 houses are pending at the present time.
  3. Kollmorgen, Schlue & Zahradnik Law Offices will host an Open House on January 22nd  3-7 p.m.
  4. The annual meeting of the Belle Plaine Community Development will be held on Wednesday, January 13th at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center.
  5. Unofficially Belle Plaine has been informed that the application for the I-JOBS Improved Green Urban Stormwater  BMP’s @ $100,000 has been approved.

Motion by Reekers to adjourn the meeting, second by Ealy. On roll call all voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
