Council Minutes – August 2, 2010

August 2, 2010
The regular meeting of the Belle Plaine City Council met on August 2, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chambers with Mayor Jim Daily presiding. Present: Garrison Reekers, Craig Van Scoyoc, James Kurovski, Marv DeRycke. Also present: City Attorney Jennifer Zahradnik and City Administrator Bill Daily. Absent: Harold Ealy
Motion by Kurovski to approve the consent agenda consisting of the July 19th council minutes, bills @ $62,978.08 & the receiving/filing of minutes from the Committee of the Whole – July 19th, second by Reekers. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by DeRycke to approve the final payment of $2,725.00 to Connerley Construction for housing rehabilitation at 1601 11th Avenue, second by Van Scoyoc. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by Reekers to approve the final payment of $9,400.00 to Connerley Construction for housing rehabilitation at 1903 10th Avenue, second by Kurovski. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.
Consideration of Public Works Department Pickup Truck Bids: City Administrator Bill Daily handed out a tabulation sheet for the two companies that had submitted bids for the truck. Johnson Motors – $28,858 for a 2010 Dodge Ram (5 speed auto) and Grieder Motor – $30,007 for a 2010 Chevy (6 speed auto). Motion by DeRycke to approve the purchase of the 2010 Dodge Ram from Johnson Motor @28,858 with plow equipped, second by Van Scoyoc. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by Van Scoyoc to approve Resolution #10-8-1 for the 2009-2010 Street Finance Report, second by Reekers. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by DeRycke to approve Resolution #10-8-2 recognizing the East Central Iowa Housing Trust Funds, second by Van Scoyoc. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.
City Administrator Reports:
- Bill said he had attended a Highway 21 preconstruction meeting last week. The project will be to repair the highway that runs through Belle Plaine. It will start on the south end of town. DOT officials have promised the highway will not be closed at any time. There will be a one lane of traffic at times. The project should take about 5 days.
- The owners of the house located at 902 13th Street (interior damage from a fire) have retained an attorney and are suing their insurance company over the settlement. The City will not be releasing its rights on the demolition fund reserve. The owners will be served a nuisance order to abate the nuisance within 7 days.
- Downtown Revitalization Project Update: Nothing new to report at this time.
- Congressman Boswell will visit Belle Plaine on Friday, August 6th at 8:30 a.m.
- There will be an Institute of Public Affairs Technical Training Initial Visit on Tuesday, August 10th at 5:15 p.m. It will be held at the Community Center.
Correspondence: Mayor Daily read a letter from Mediacom.

Motion by Kurovksi to adjourn the meeting, second by Van Scoyoc. On roll call all voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
