The regular meeting of the Belle Plaine City Council met on October 17, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chambers with Mayor Jim Daily presiding. Present: James Kurovski, Garrison Reekers, Harold Ealy, Marv DeRycke, Craig Van Scoyoc. Also present: City Attorney Jennifer Zahradnik and City Administrator Bill Daily.
Motion by Kurovski to approve the consent agenda consisting of the October 3rd council minutes, bills @ $75,703.36 & the receiving/filing of the Community Center Board – June 22nd, second by Reekers. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.
Curtis Brown, Chairman of the Airport Commission, gave an update of improvements and projects that are happening at the airport. Council thanked Brown for the update.
The next Committee of the Whole meeting will be held November 21th at 5:00 p.m.
Jeri DeRaad, President of the Belle Plaine Community Development, gave the monthly report to the Council.
Police Chief Kris Hudson gave the monthly Police Department report.
Residents Comments: Judy Akers spoke to the Council about the need for new carpet at her apartment. Akers stated because of rain during the street project, her carpet was ruined. City Administrator stated the claim had been turned into the insurance company. Council instructed Akers to give Bill an updated list of damages.
City Administrator’s Report:
- Bill reported that the ribbon cutting ceremony and street opening was held today for the Downtown Revitalization/Streetscape Project. The architects were in town today and are preparing the final punch list for the project. Contractors will continue working on the façade portion of the project until the weather turns bad. They will return in the spring.
- The Airport Snow Removal Equipment Building project is moving right along. Bill said the steel went up today and a tentative completion date is December 1st.
- There is a need for a new medical building roof. Health Physicians’ will help with the cost of the roof. A proposal @ $40,000 has been received for a new roof.
- Bill requested vacation time of November 14-17th. Motion y Kurovski to approve Bill’s request for November 14-17th for vacation days, second by DeRycke. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by Kurovski to adjourn the meeting, second by Ealy. On roll call all voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 6:21 p.m.
