Council Minutes – December 19, 2011

December 19, 2011

The regular meeting of the Belle Plaine City Council met on December 19, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chambers with Mayor Jim Daily presiding.  Present:  Harold Ealy, Craig VanScoyoc, James Kurovski, Garrison Reekers, Marv DeRycke.  Also present:  City Attorney Jennifer Zahradnik and City Administrator Bill Daily.

Motion by DeRycke to approve the consent agenda consisting of council minutes from December 5th, bills @ $129,228.52 & the receiving/filing of minutes from the December 14th Park Board meeting, second by Ealy. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by Kurovski to approve the renewal of Class C liquor, outdoor service & Sunday sales permits for The Oasis, second by Ealy. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Motion by Ealy to reschedule the next council meeting from January 2nd to January 4th because of several conflicts, second by Kurovski. On roll call Ealy, Kurovski, DeRycke, Van Scoyoc voted aye. Reekers voted nay. Motion carried.

Motion by Ealy to approve Resolution #11-12-4 accepting partial payment #4 to Garling Construction @ $33,818.14 relating to the Belle Plaine Municipal Airport Snow Removal Equipment Storage Building, second by Kurovski. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Sheila Hlas, Belle Plaine Community Development Director, gave the monthly report.

Chief of Police Kris Hudson gave the monthly police department report.

Motion by Kurovski to set January 16th as the date for the next Committee of the Whole meeting
5:00 p.m. @ City Hall, second by Reekers. On roll call all voted aye. Motion carried.

Residents Comments:  None

City Administrator Report:

  1. 1.       The Downtown Revitalization Project has wrapped up for the winter months. A solution to the  mainstreet storm water problem has not been found yet. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.
  2. 2.       There will be a Main Street Iowa Annual Visit tomorrow from 1-5:00 p.m. at City Hall.  Everyone is welcomed to attend.
  3. 3.       Bill reviewed the Aquatic Center 2011 Seasonal Report.

Correspondence:  Mayor Daily read a letter of appreciation from Gene Severson.

Old Business:  None

At this time Mayor Daily handed out appreciation gifts to Councilman Ealy and Councilman Van Scoyoc for their years of faithful service to the City of Belle Plaine.

Motion by Kurovski to adjourn the meeting, second by Ealy. On roll call all voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
